BME student Ethan Shaw presented his research at the 2026 Texas Children's Hospital Pediatric Research Symposium. His first peer-reviewed, first-authored publication just went live in PLOS One — covering a research-grade, low-cost, 3D-printable hydroponics system he designed to be freely accessible to everyone through the NIH3D model resource. He's also been admitted to our UH Study Abroad Program in the Netherlands, where he'll work on translating the sustainable waterway infrastructure of Amsterdam and The Hague to systems here in Houston — addressing three NAE Grand Challenges along the way.
Ethan exemplifies what it means to be a student-scholar-engineer. We are so proud to watch him grow and can't wait to see what comes next.
