Dr. Fabrice Manns is professor of biomedical engineering and ophthalmology at the University of Miami, where he has been chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering since 2017 and also served as interim associate dean for graduate studies and for research at the College of Engineering. Dr. Manns is co-director of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s Ophthalmic Biophysics Center (OBC), a laboratory dedicated to the development of technologies designed to improve patient eye care. His current research focuses on the development of technology for ocular imaging and biometry and their applications to study the optical system of the eye and to optimize vision-correction procedures. Dr. Manns chaired SPIE’s Ophthalmic Technologies Conference from 1997 to 2020. He completed two terms as Associate Editor of the Optica’s Biomedical Optics Express journal and serves on the program committee of the annual meeting of the International Society for Imaging in the Eye. From 2016 to 2018 he served as a chair of the NIH SBIR/STTR study section on auditory and vision technologies. Dr. Manns received an electrical engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Electronique et de Radioélectricité de Bordeaux and a post-graduate degree from the University of Bordeaux in microelectronics. He earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Miami. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute sponsored by Fight for Sight before being hired as a faculty member jointly by the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Manns is a fellow of SPIE, AIMBE and ARVO.
