Jason H. Sakamoto is a scientist and entrepreneur committed to the clinical translation of transformative medical innovation. He brings over 20 years of experience at the intersection of nanomedicine research, biotech startup development, and the medical device industry. He currently serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Device Innovation and Head of the TMCi Biodesign Program at TMC Innovation.

Prior to joining TMC Innovation, Jason served as Vice President of Development at NanoMedical Systems (NMS) in Austin, Texas, where he and his colleagues translated academic-based medical device technologies from the drawing board to product launch and early sales. He joined NMS after serving as an assistant professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Nanomedicine at the Houston Methodist Research Institute, where he led research programs in nano-therapeutic drug delivery and nano-based regenerative medicine for lung regeneration and wound healing.

Jason is a co-inventor of the multistage nanoporous silicon nanovector delivery system technology currently being commercialized by a Houston-based biotech startup. During his academic tenure, he also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Alliance for NanoHealth, a consortium of eight Texas Medical Center and Greater Houston institutions focused on advancing nanotechnology-based solutions to unmet medical needs and facilitating their clinical translation through commercialization.

Jason received his undergraduate degree in Materials Science Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. After working at the Guidant Corporation (Santa Clara, CA) making cardiovascular and peripheral stents, he attended The Ohio State University where he received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering.
